I watched a lot of coming out stories and this has to be near the top. The expression on the kid when his parents remained stoic was great. The Mom was absolutely hilarious. She let it out with honesty and humor. Dad was great also as it was a topic they probably frequently discussed.

This is how I wish my parents reacted. They told me never to come back home. Dad talked with me later, he said he was fine with everything no problems, but it was mom. I was surprised to hear him say that, I thought it would be the other way around.

I didn't exactly come put but I asked both parents individually what they would think/do if I married a woman. My mum said that she would be polite but would never refer to them as my S.O in any form and my dad basically threatened unofficial disownment. If my parents ever reacted even slightly this I wouldn't believe it and it would be the best thing for me but I know that's not going to happen.

My family had a total non-reaction. all I got was "ok so?" 😂

This is just the perfect Christmas movie. One of my all time favourites.

I hated this scene because both of the parents were very heterosexist throughout the film--they'd always assume he was straight, which just put more and more anxiety on pressure on him. And then to find out that they actually suspected it all along. Clearly, they failed to send the message that they'd 1) be okay with him being gay, and 2) actively raised it as a possibility.

This movie is my Xmas eve tradition, ever since coming out 7 years ago, every year whether I'm alone or with a partner/family, I watch this movie, good times.

I kinda liked the scene years ago, however now I feel pity for the boy. They really let him wait a long time. Anybody who had to come out knows how scary that is.

My parents are the type of people that protest at pride month parades. If I came out they would kill me

I came out to my mother and she didn't really acknowledge it so I thought she was in denial. So at dinner about a year later I came out to her again and she responded with you already told me that okay so what. Coming out to my father was really scary because he was born in 1935 so older generation, but when I reconnected with an old friend who was a girl he thought I was dating and was glad that I was finally dating. so I had to tell him that I was gay because I couldn't live the lie. He took a second, looked at me (because it was late at night), and said okay I love you anyway no matter what but it's late and you have school tomorrow so go to bed. That was the end of it no discussion afterwards, no fight, no nothing, it just was what it was. He's been supportive of every relationship I've had since. I'm currently dating-- no, living my life with my man of 10 years, and my father has never once said anything negative. I know as well, that if my mother was still alive she would be the yenta she was born to be, and most likely be nagging me for grandkids.
